My name is Lynne Matthews.
I am a secondary teacher of more than 35 years’ experience. Most of my teaching career was spent at Cambridge High School and at St Peter’s School, Cambridge. My main teaching subject was English and while at St Peter’s I co-ordinated the Learning Support programme. Since retiring from St Peter’s, I have returned on a regular basis as part of the supervision team for national examinations.
I am married to Paul and we have two adult sons. We have lived in our family home in Leamington for the past 27 years and are soon to move into a villa at Lauriston Park Retirement Village, also in Leamington.
My interest in the Children 1st Charitable Trust developed from conversations with my neighbour and Trust member Susan Lyon. From my work in the classroom and involvement in extra-curricular activities over many years, I know how important it is for young people to develop resilience and confidence and to have a sense of self-worth. These attributes are particularly relevant at the present time with the influence of social media on the lives of young people.
I endorse the core values of the Children 1st Charitable Trust and am pleased to have the opportunity to support the valuable work it does in developing and presenting programmes which empower our children.
